Job Title: Service Maintenance Worker (Semi-Skilled)

Reports to: Greens Supervisor

Job Summary

To assist greens superintendent and golf course maintenance division with all aspects of golf course maintenance including but not limited to course construction, operation of tractors, other turf equipment and chemical treatment grounds.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities

The following duties are normal for this position. Other duties may be required, assigned and expected aside from those set forth below to address operational needs and changing operational practices.

  • Operates greens mower with attachments to cut and maintain golf greens.
  • Prunes, waters and fertilizes plants and shrubbery.
  • Collects and disposes garbage.
  • Inspects tools and equipment to ensure they are operable.
  • Performs minor services and repairs.
  • Obtains quotes on services and repairs needed.
  • Ensure equipment is cleaned and stored properly.
  • Performs additional duties in support of the department as needed or upon request.
  • Attends departmental meetings and safety meetings.
  • Maintains uniform and safety attire to conform to dress code and safety rules.

Qualifications

Education & Experience Guidelines
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities required for this position would be:

Education/Training
Have high school education, GED or equivalent training and experience.

Experience
Equivalent training and experience.

Licenses or Certifications Required
Hold valid state issued driver license.

Knowledge of:

  • Organization and operational procedures of the Golf Course.
  • Proper operation, use and maintenance of assigned equipment.
  • Policies, rules and regulations of the City of Phenix City.

Ability to:

  • Verbally communicate in order to converse with supervisors and crew members regarding work related activities.
  • Count, add and subtract whole numbers.
  • Comprehend written or oral instructions.
  • Write in order to prepare simple forms.
  • Operate chain saw to cut low hanging limbs or to remove trees.
  • Operate and utilize tools and equipment safely to perform various tasks.
  • Work under general supervision and complete assigned tasks.
  • Exercise judgment particularly in tasks involving safety of self or others and efficiency of operations.
  • Work as a member of a team.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
