Reports to: Recreation Superintendent
Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Recreation Superintendent, Park Security Officers are responsible for patrolling the areas from Garrett Stadium to the Sports Complex including: Idle Hour Park, Roy Martin Center, Idle Hour Tennis Center, Moon Lake, and the Nature Trail and/or Amphitheater and Riverwalk. Park Security Officers act as Ambassador of the City of Phenix City, and perform general security duties and other duties as designated by the patrol captain for the suppression and prevention of crimes, preservation of peace, and the protection of property as defined by the laws and ordinances of the City of Phenix City.
Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities
The following duties are normal for this position. Other duties may be required, assigned and expected aside from those set forth below to address operational needs and changing operational practices.
- Report accidents and injuries and investigate the cause of the accident or injury.
- Performs daily maintenance checks of assigned equipment.
- Write and file a daily activity report.
- Park Security Officers provide security to the Idle Hour Park area by conducting regular patrol, setting up observation post, and providing escorts to employees of the Roy Martin Center and Idle Hour Tennis Facility.
- Become familiar with the area and persons utilizing the facilities.
- Observe and investigate conditions, suspicious persons, etc., which may cause or promote commissions of crimes or other incidents that require security services.
- Operate the police radio and assigned vehicle.
- Perform other duties as assigned or required.
- Report safety and/or other hazards that may endanger public safety.
- Observe public gatherings to maintain peace and insure the fair and equitable use of the facilities. Investigate and dispose of minor complaints involving events in the area of responsibility.
- Disputes that cannot be settled by peaceful persuasion will be reported to the on duty police supervisor.
- Answer emergency calls in the patrol area such as illness, fire, etc.
- Answer calls involving property crimes, secure the crime scene area, preserve physical evidence, locate possible witnesses, and report to a police officer.

Valid Driver’s License from State of Residence.

Knowledge of:
- Patrolling, incident response and emergency protocols
- Local ordinances, trespassing and park rules
- Documentation of incidents
- First Aid and CPR basics
- Radio Communication procedures
- Wildlife risks, weather hazards and terrain safety

- Remain calm and make sound decisions in stressful situations
- Communicate clearly and professionally (verbally and in writing)
- Work independently with minimal supervision
- Respond quickly to emergencies or calls for assistance

- Build rapport with the public while maintaining authority
