Job Summary
Under general supervision inspects, diagnoses problems and repairs various equipment and vehicles used in the operation and maintenance of the golf course; performs preventive services on vehicles and equipment to include replacing filters, worn or damaged parts and adding fluids as needed; operates tractors and mowers with attachments to cut and maintain golf greens; operates backhoe to transport sand into sand taps and lift heavy debris; maintains fairways and grounds surrounding golf facility, prunes, waters and fertilizers plants and shrubbery; collects and disposes of garbage and performs additional duties in support of the department as needed or upon request.
Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities
The following duties are normal for this position. Other duties may be required, assigned and expected aside from those set forth below to address operational needs and changing operational practices.
- Inspects and repairs gasoline and diesel powered equipment.
- Repairs or replaces belts, hoses, fuel and hydraulic lines.
- Inspects tires for wear and tear; plugs holes or replaces tires as needed; stockpiles worn or damaged tires for disposal.
- Replaces blown bulbs and fuses, inspects signaling equipment and safety lights to ensure proper operation.
- Replaces worn electrical wiring in vehicles and equipment.
- Rebuilds hydraulic motors, installs clutches, replaces blades and other repairs on lawnmowers and other small equipment, test equipment to ensure it is functioning properly and makes adjustments as necessary.
- Rebuilds carburetors and adjusts idling as needed.
- Performs minor repairs on golf carts to including tightening or adjusting steering columns.
- Inspects vehicles and equipment, checks fluid levels to include, oil, water, and hydraulic fluids.
- Inspects brakes to ensure proper operation, replaces bad brake pads or adds fluid as needed.
- Performs scheduled preventive maintenance service on equipment replacing air, fuel, and hydraulic filter
- Operates greens mower with attachment to cut grass on golf greens, empties excess grass in disposal site.
- May use grading machine to level and smoothes sand traps.
- May operate tractor with attachments to cut larger areas around facility.
- May operate backhoe to lift heavy debris and sand.
- Using drag net cleans fairways of grass clippings.
- Operates aerifier to groom and maintain golf green.
- Using fairway mower grooms and maintains golf green.
- Operates verti-cutter to thin golf green as needed.
- Assists in cutting and maintaining fairways and grounds surrounding pro shop.
- Using chain saw cuts low hanging limbs from trees along course.
- Using string trimmer edges sidewalk and areas not easily accessible.
- Assists in repairing leaks in irrigation system upon request.
- Assist in maintaining plants and shrubbery by pruning, watering and fertilizing.
- Collects garbage or other debris along course.
- May assist in cutting and maintaining golf tees.
- Assists in making repairs to include laying sod as needed.
- Distributes fertilizer and grass seeds on course.
- Maintains and cleans shop to ensure work area is free of debris and possible safety hazards.
- Drives service truck to pick up supplies or parts needed for repairs.
- Performs additional duties as assigned or upon request.
Qualifications
Education & Experience Guidelines
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities required for this position would be:
Education/Training
High School Diploma/GED or demonstrated level of proficiency.
Experience
Minimum three years experience in the maintenance and repair of equipment and vehicles.
Licenses or Certifications Required
Valid State Issued Driver’s License.

Knowledge of:
- Vehicles and equipment repair and maintenance to include small engine repair, minor assemblies, tuning and preventive maintenance.
- Organization and operational procedures of Golf Courses.
- Tools and equipment used in golf course and greens maintenance.
- Golf course schedules.
Ability to:
- Comprehend operator and reference manuals, directives, gauges and indicators.
- Complete simple forms, write instructions and document records.
- Communicate with supervisors, crew members and co-workers regarding work related activities.
- Count, add and subtract numbers using decimals.
- Diagnose mechanical problems with equipment.
- Safely operate backhoe, tractor, and greens mower.
- Operate hand and power tools used in landscaping and greens maintenance.
- Use mechanics hand tools to make minor repairs to equipment.
- Follow instructions and efficiently complete tasks.
- Work as a member of a team.
