Reconnecting Communities – Crawford Road / 13th Street Corridor

Phenix City has been awarded Neighborhood Access and Equity (NAE) funding through the Reconnecting Communities Pilot (RCP) grant program of the federal infrastructure bill (BIL). The funding is intended to support an evaluation of the Crawford Road / 13th Street corridor to identify strategies that support better community connections.

What is RCP?

Reconnecting Communities Pilot (RCP) program is a discretionary grant program which focuses on advancing community-centered transportation connection projects, with a priority for projects that benefit underserved communities.

The RCP focuses on improving access to daily needs such as jobs, education, healthcare, food, nature, and recreation. It fosters community development and restoration, and it provides technical assistance to further these goals.

Project Goals

The primary goal of the RCP Program is to reconnect communities harmed by past transportation infrastructure decisions, through community-supported planning activities and capital construction projects that are championed by those communities.

Project Description

The project will focus on studying the Crawford Road/13th Street Corridor from U.S. Highway 280 to the state line at the bridge crossing of the Chattahoochee River, approximately 1.9 miles.

This project will be comprised of three main components:

  • Review of existing conditions
  • Public engagement and outreach
  • Improvements and recommendations
